Cross Country Ski Tools to Care for Your Skis

Tools for cross country skiing are essential if you want to maintain your cross country skis in top condition and maximize their performance. The ski bases can deteriorate if not properly treated. The varying temperatures, moisture exposure in different snow conditions, and dirt can all impact the grip and glide zone of skis.

How Do You Brush Cross Country Skis?

After waxing your cross country skis and removing most of the wax with a ski scraper, it's time to use your brushes. Cross country ski brushes help remove wax that a scraper can’t and structure the base to further enhance the ski's performance.

Using long strokes, brush the skis from tip to tail with medium pressure. As you brush, you should see small particles of wax collecting at the end of your stroke. Continue the process until you no longer see any small wax dust. A nylon ski brush is ideal for very cold conditions, while a brass ski brush will better prepare your skis for warmer conditions. Using a horsehair ski brush is an excellent way to finish the brushing process, regardless of the weather conditions.
