Life Jackets Ensuring Your Head Stays Above Water
Unalike a buoyancy vest or an impact vest, the life jacket is crafted to keep you buoyant and, crucially, to maintain your head above the water. The design, along with head support functionality, guarantees that no matter how you enter the water, the jacket will keep your head aloft. Regarding the varied safety vests available, it is important to note that life jackets represent the most secure personal flotation devices (PFD).
Certification is a Must for Life Jackets
Life jackets bearing a 100N certification label have received coast guard approval following stringent testing. The 100N denotes the level of buoyancy, equating in this instance to at least 10 kg. The greater the “N” figure, the more buoyant the jacket is. Life jackets, whether for adults or infants, must carry this certification, as detailed in their product specifications.
Buoyancy vests are an alternative type of PFD, but they are not expressly intended to keep the head above water and do not offer as much buoyancy. They are ideal for several water sports such as paddleboarding and waterskiing, where additional arm mobility is beneficial. Visit our Buoyancy Aids collection to explore further.
