What Are BMX Wheels?
The wheels are what give you the forward motion on your BMX, so it goes without saying that they have a big impact on your riding and play an important role when performing stunts. Freestyle BMX wheels are designed to be sturdy and durable to withstand all the hard impacts of freestyle riding. For this reason, they are heavier compared to race BMX wheels.
The Different Parts of a BMX Wheel
All the different elements of a BMX wheel can be confusing. When buying a new wheel you will need to take into account the different components such as the hub, the spokes, the rims and axles. BMX wheels often come prebuilt, although often without the rim. However, you can always modify the wheel with custom BMX Parts.
With BMX hubs you can choose between a cassette or freecoaster, depending on what style of riding you want to do. Freestyle BMX wheels usually come with 36 spoke BMX rims, which is great for riding park, street and vert.
What Size BMX Wheels Should I Get?
You should get wheels that allow for the most comfortable and fun riding experience. The majority of wheels for freestyle BMX have a 20-inch diameter, although wheels for kids models can start from as small as 14 inches. Of course, when you buy wheels, you need to make sure they will not get in the way of your frame, and will fit your rims and tyres.
