Adult Scooters – Practical, Enjoyable, and Designed for Teenagers & Adults
This is where you'll discover adult scooters for every purpose. Our aim is to offer a selection of high-quality scooters from reliable brands, presenting the best options across all price ranges.
Adult scooters – also known as commuter scooters – cater to adults seeking a practical, quick, and enjoyable means of transport.
These scooters are sturdy enough to support individuals weighing up to 100 kg (or 220 lbs), with certain models accommodating even heavier users. Whether you're commuting to your job or having a ride with your children at the park, if you're in the market for a scooter as an adult, you're in the right place.
Defining an Adult Scooter
Adult scooters are crafted to be secure and practical transport devices for adults. They are larger than stunt scooters, and are built to be lightweight yet strong enough to carry an adult's weight.
Typical features of adult scooters include:
- Adjustable handlebars, ideally suited for teenagers and adults
- Folding systems for effortless carrying and storage
- Big wheels with a diameter of 200 mm or greater
- Durable and lightweight build
Benefits of Foldable Scooters
Foldable scooters are perfect for everyday use. A significant benefit is their ability to be compacted, making them less cumbersome when not in use. Foldable scooters are simple to take on public transport or store in a confined area, including your car's boot.
Modern scooters have reliable and user-friendly folding systems, generally employing a quick-release locking-pin. You can activate this mechanism without needing any tools.
Foldable Versus Non-Foldable Scooters
Your decision between a foldable or non-foldable scooter should consider your priorities:
- Foldable scooters prioritise portability and are easy to carry along.
- Non-foldable scooters emphasise stability, durability, and are better for lengthier rides.
Our selection of adult scooters includes both foldable and non-foldable types. Although both are safe and reliable, foldable scooters may have a potential weak spot in the folding mechanism – a concern not present in non-foldable models.
Opting for a non-foldable scooter may prove advantageous if you anticipate longer journeys or challenging terrain. Nonetheless, the folding feature is a remarkable asset, facilitating easy collapsing and transportation, and enables more convenient storage.
Which Size Scooter Should I Choose?
Measure the distance from the ground to your preferred handlebar height position for comfortable riding. The ideal handlebar height should lie between your hips and navel. Once determined, add 5 cm to allow for the gap between the top of the deck and the ground.
Review the scooter’s overall height specifications for the model you're considering. Total height reflects the measurement from the ground to the top of the handlebars. For adult scooters with adjustable handlebars, this is given as a range – the lower end indicates the minimum handlebar setting, and the higher end indicates the maximum.
Do Adult Scooters Feature Hand Brakes?
Hand brakes are not standard on all adult scooters, although each is equipped with a rear fender brake. You can reduce speed on a scooter by using the fender brake, a hand brake (if present), or by placing a foot on the ground and dragging it to create friction. While intuitive, dragging a foot causes premature wear on shoe soles. For commuting, opting for a scooter fitted with a durable fender brake or handbrake (or both) is ideal.
Hand brakes offer faster and more precise stopping. Commuter scooters are enhanced by hand brakes due to increased safety in traffic and smoother speed control. Although not essential, we strongly recommend them for commuters.
