How to Remove Pre-Wax from Your New Cross Country Skate Skis
Before you embark on the sunny cross country trails with your new pair of cross country skis, it's essential to remove the pre-wax from the base.
The great news is that removing the pre-wax is quite simple. Just follow these four steps:
- Remove any stickers that the manufacturer has placed on the skis.
- Eliminate the wax in the groove in the middle of the base. Using a pencil groove scraper is a good idea.
- Next, it's time to remove the glider wax. Use a plexiglass wax scraper and move it from the tip of the ski to the tail. Ensure you’re not applying too much pressure when scraping off the wax. Repeat this 3-6 times.
- The final step is to brush off the base of the ski. Again, it's important to do this in the ski's travel direction. For optimal glide, ensure the surface is completely clean so the base's structure is visible. Repeat this at least 3 times. You can use either a nylon brush or a combi brush.
