WD-40
WD-40 is a renowned and extensively utilised multi-purpose spray, invaluable for a wide array of tasks such as dirt removal, extracting stuck screws and bolts, and easing zips, along with numerous other household applications.
The title "WD-40" originates from Norman Larsen, who pioneered the spray in 1953. It signifies "Water Displacement, 40th formula", reflecting the spray's fundamental attributes and also hinting at the multiple trials Norman undertook before achieving the perfect formula.
Norman established the Rocket Chemical Company, and the purpose behind creating WD-40 was to prevent rust and corrosion on the thin balloon tanks of the Atlas missile stored by them. Over time, the multitude of domestic applications for WD-40 was discovered, leading to its public availability in 1958.
